Can You Hear Me Now?

As a kid, and even as an adult, the timeless comedy of Laurel and Hardy has captured my imagination. This physical nature and silliness they portrayed on film inspired me. Sometimes it seems that they would fly off of the screen I was watching them on, which inspired this painting.

I combined two of my favorite painting techniques. I used airbrush and acrylic paint to render grisaille which was used by the old masters that incorporate a monochromatic under-painting with multiple glazes of color added for depth.

On top of the underpainting, I used tradition paint brushes and glazing with layers of oil to add depth and dimension to the horn. As much fun as Laurel and Hardy were to watch as a kid, they are just as much fun to paint as an adult.
